To join IAF as an officer, the defense aspirant should clear the Air Force Common Admission Test(AFCAT).
Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) is being conducted online mode by Air Force. The next AFCAT examination will be scheduled for 12-14 February 2022 at the National level.
The final year graduate/graduate/post-graduate or Engineers can apply for the AFCAT examination to qualify for an SSB interview.
After successful SSB and military basic and technical training at Air Force Academy Dundigal(Hyderabad), the defense aspirants will be permanent or short service commissioned officers in the rank of flight officer/flight lieutenant of the Indian Air Force.
AFCAT Exam Dates and Apply Online
The online application can be submitted between 01 December 2021 to 30 December 2021, and a written online examination will be conducted from 12 to 14 February 2022.

AFCAT Exam Pattern
The examination pattern will be:
- 100 questions consisting of 25 questions from English & General Science, 18 questions from Numerical Ability, and 32 questions from Reasoning and Military Aptitude.
- The ground technical officer aspirants should write an Engineering Knowledge Test( EKT) for 50 questions from the basics of Mechanical, computer science, and Electrical & Electronics& Electronics.
- The total time allotted for the examination is two hours for AFCAT in the general category and 45 minutes extra for the Engineering Knowledge Test(EKT).
- The valuation is based on three marks for each correct answer and one minus mark for each wrong answer.
- The maximum marks for the general category are 300 marks, and EKT candidates are 450 marks.
- The cut-off marks for getting an interview call from the Selection Centre, Air Force is above 50 % of the total marks.
- However, the candidate should aim to get more marks during the test as it also helps in the SSB and training in the Academies.

Mathematics (Numerical ability)
- Total questions: 18

No separate study material is required. The CDS reference book, i.e., Pathfinder CDS book, may be sufficient
General Awareness

- Current affairs, sports, art, culture, environment, History, Geography, politics, basic science, civics, .etc.

Other books you can refer could be the last six-month Competition Success Review, Manorma Yearbook 2021, and one Newspaper (The Hindu or Indian Express)

Reasoning & Military Aptitude
Total questions: 32
- Verbal skills and spatial ability, series, coding & decoding, clock and calendar, statement and conclusions, figure series, dot situation, etc.
