What is Agnipath Entry Scheme in Indian Air Force?
The Agnipath Entry scheme is a new HR Management scheme for the Armed Forces which was recently announced by the Government of India on 14 June 2022, for the recruitment of soldiers below the rank of commissioned officers into the three services of the armed forces.
These soldiers would be called Agniveers and can be enrolled in the Indian Army, Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy. The Agniveers enrolled in any of the three defence divisions will be able to serve for a period of 4 years.
Agniveers are set to form a distinct rank in the IAF, different from any other existing rank.
Just like other entry schemes to enrol in the Indian Air Force, there will be specialized rallies and interviews to find suitable candidates to enrol candidates under this new entry scheme
Candidates will be required to formally accept all the terms and conditions of the Agnipath scheme. If you are under 18 years of age, you will be required to be signed by the parents/guardians, in accordance with extant provisions.
After completing the four years, Agniveers will be required to retire and go back to society. However, based on requirements from the organization, Agniveers could be offered an opportunity to apply for enrollment in the IAF (or the defence division you are part of) in the regular cadre.
They can then be part of the organization for the long term or till the time they take voluntary retirement.
The centralized board will consider such applications and will process them in a transparent manner. Only up to 25% of the candidate of the original Agniveers will be given the long-term opportunity, based on their performance during their four-year engagement period as Agniveers.
As per the conditions, Agniveers have no right to be selected for further enrollment in the Armed forces, unless called upon.
The enrolment as airmen into the regular cadre of the Indian Air Force except for Medical tradesmen will be available only to that personnel who has completed their engagement period as Agniveers.
Benefits of Joining As Agniveers in the Indian Air Force
